Comparative Assessment of Shear Demand for RC Beam-Column Joints under Earthquake Loading

This paper focuses on the evaluation of bi-axial shear demand for reinforced concrete (RC) beam–column joints assuming: (i) SPEAR frame as a benchmark; and (ii) different structural analysis methods which share same seismic input. A numerical model was implemented using lumped plasticity. The were modeled rigid offsets beams columns. at joint is evaluated post-process beam’s nodal moment. discussion differences between estimated considering modal-response-spectrum (MRSA), non-linear static (NLSA) time history (NLTH). Strength assessment discussed well. Significant strength recognized by building codes targeted to existing structures which, in general, behaved safe side. elliptical domain resulted being conservative when compared NLTH orbits. NLSA, modal combination, proved estimate larger with respect MRSA NLTH.
